In class, within pairs we looked a random magazine finding out how many pages consisted advertisement and how many pages contained a feature which ultimately can prove to us who the selected target audience for any magazine. Up above is a pie chart of a detailed tally of the magazine Top Of Pops, which clearly shows most of the pages within the magazine where features. Next was a full page product advertisement which clearly shows that the music magazine has features of fashion throughout. Target Audience clearly looking at the magazine it self the target audience of top of the pops is females ged 13 to 18. As throughout the magazine most of the prouducts which are advertised in the magazine are feminine for e.g.Tampax, make up and etc. The features also prove to back up the fact that it aimed at 13-18 as the articles are short and snappy within the the magazine with a lot of posters to rip out.

The other magazine in which the other pair studied was the indie/rock magazine known as 'NME'. The other group took a slightly different approach to collecting the results as they counted the different types of advertisements, e.g. mobile phone advertisement and music related advertisement. They also counted the number of magazine features within the magazine. As you can see demonstrated by the pie chart most of the pages are of the magazine features, then next event related advertisements. This clearly shows this magazine isn't a kiddish mag with a lot of text rather then a magazine full of advertisements, gaining the reader to look through the magazine instead of taking time to read the magazine. Target Audience would generally be for 'NME' a Male, who is aged 18-35, whom is probably be of a white background and a middle class family. The reason why I feel this is the audience of this magazine is because the genre of the music which is typically listen to, by a white background, also the amount of text within these types of magazines. As the advertisements within this magazine isn't seen to be aimed at those who are not 'higher class' with a lot of event related advertisements, and most of these events are expensive so not everyone will be able to afford them.
