Drake - Take Care This album deserve a round of applause literally, there was more then a high expectation when delivering his second official album to hit stores worldwide. I have to say he did more the live up to the expectation, as Drake gave his fans a lot of content before his album dropped, unfortunately those songs didn't make it to the album and at the time seem like it was going to be a bad thing but however it paid off. The mood of Take Care switches up amongst every song from slow, soft thinking songs to more heavy bass, head moving, legs twitching songs. The variety within this album is fascinating as Drake shows he more then a rapper but a very good singer as well which helps the album to have a lot of different sounds. I guess he did it again with 20 tracks of pure gold (which is also on his cover) my favorite track on the album has to 'Under Ground Kings', as it has that raw rapping feeling to it.Jay-Z & Kanye West - Watch The Throne Probably the most anticipated rap album over the last decade as two of the biggest rap sensations in the world of rap collaborate to produce a set of songs which helps them to watch there so call (and i agree) 'throne'. I couldn't wait to listen to this album, as I knew the production, lyrics, vocals and more would be something that more then special. What can I say this album deserve the royal album cover it has, these two hip hop giants put there 100% effort in this album to deem it as a classic. 16 tracks of deep thinking showing you a different set of emotions in every one of their songs from wanting to pop open a bottle of champagne to pretend to be on their wealth, to reflecting on society and the struggle from rich to poor. The beats in this album are a marvel with the top producers coming out and providing the 'kings' of rap with beats so they can both grace there creative, intellectual lyrics on a beat well fit for a king. This album will definitely go down in history, my favorite track on this album is 'No Church In The Wild'. That is the first song on the album and what a way to kick off this classic with a chorus that gets one thinking about life and two verses done by two master of the game to top off my favorite song.
NaS - Illmatic Where do I start when I review one of the best albums of ALL TIME! This album means a lot to me, is it because NaS released this album on the year I was born, or was it because the boy on the front cover looks a bit like my younger self, or was it because this was the first album I actually listen to and took notice of the wisdom NaS portrayed through this classic album. I guess it all three of those reason mixed with a whole lot of other reason. Illmatic is the definition of real Hip-Hop & Rap as this was the first ever album NaS created. Born and raised in Queensbridge in New York, this album has that classic East Cost feeling to it, making one, want to sit down and take in all the lyrics and just calmly and slowly move there head, defining what hip-hop all about. The lyrical substance within Illmatic is something which is on another planet to most modern day rap albums, demonstrating to listeners of the album that there is more to life then guns, drugs and money. With a whole lot of vintage funk, soul and jazz samples which takes you back to an era where somebody can just enjoy rap with a positive outlook to life. The production on the album is insane, as the beats aren't some extreme over the top drums, snares etc, but instead just simple loops over heavy beats, helping NaS to demonstrate his lyrical wizardry over 10 tracks of pure class. I can go on and on about Illmatic but i have to bring it to a wrap so you can enjoy the album instead of me going on, my favourtie track on the album is the last track 'It Ain't Hard To Tell' make sure you listen to that song so you can review the album and the song yourself!
